Cardiff and the South Wales region is blessed with easy access to a wide variety of forms of canoeing and kayaking. There is the fantastic coastline including the superb Glamorgan Heritage Coast, Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire stretches with plenty of sea kayak trips available to the islands of the Severn Estuary. Whitewater paddling of all standards in the South Wales Valleys and Brecon Beacons National Park.
The region has also been well served in terms of equipment supply by the watersports store Up and Under outdoor gear in Cardiff. Recently Up and Under have opened a second shop dedicated to watersports that has riverside access for testing boats in the Cardiff Marine Village. The development of the Marine Village waterside site, Up and Under watersports and their relationship with Cardiff Harbour Authority and the excellent watersports training facilities at Adventure Cardiff has enabled the conception and actioning of the Welsh Canoe and Kayak Show.
The show will be a truly inclusive Welsh Canoe and Kayaking event by involving as many organisations and businesses from around the country as possible within the space available. Outdoor centres, charities and suppliers from North, South and Mid Wales have been invited to present or visit as well as equipment manufacturers from throughout the UK and abroad.
The ability to have a large number of canoe and kayak brands together on one site with a large number of demonstration boats available for testing alongside a large number of their other products on the day should make this event a must visit day out for anyone interested in paddling.
The Welsh Canoe and Kayak Show 2011 is located in South Wales at Cardiff Marine Village and is easily accessed by road, rail, water and air.
The site itself is 0.5 hectares in size and is located on the east side of the River Ely close to Cardiff Bay. The Canoe and Kayak Show is situated just upstream from the International Sports Village Cardiff with its Olympic standard Cardiff International White Water Centre.
Visitors to the Welsh Canoe and Kayak Show 2011 will have access to the main site where the stands, displays and refreshment stalls will be based. Access to the wharf will be available for spectators and the pontoons on the River Ely will be available for people testing product. The on site retail outlets of Up and Under Watersports and Force4 Chandlery will also be open all day for the purchase of paddling kit and sailing products respectively.
